To avoid making large errors when making sight adjustments for the 1st shot, it can be helpful to know how certain quantities change as a result of the change of others. There are 2 sorts of relationship relevant here:
linear: this is where increasing the 1st quantity by 2x causes the 2nd quantity to increase by 2x, and increasing the 1st quantity by 3x causes the 2nd quantity to increase by 3x, and so on;
square: this is where increasing the 1st quantity by 2x causes the 2nd quantity to increase by 4x (as 2x2=4), and increasing the 1st quantity by 3x causes the 2nd quantity to increase by 9x (as 3x3=9), and so on.
In the following table the 1st quantity labels the row and the 2nd the column; Bullet movement applies both to bullet drop due to gravity and bullet drift due to wind.
