.. _Document Structure: ****************** Document Structure ****************** This section is included mainly to help readers who are prepared to make the effort to send comments. I have always found it easier to make a writer understand my comments if I understand why the writer has done what I am commenting about. This section contains the reasons for some of the decisions I made about writing this document. All comments, however scathing, are welcome, because I find comments useful. The author of any document written for others to read needs to know what their readers think of it. I am used to writing as part of a team, so I am used to complete rewrites, and comments have long since become incapable of offending me. Safety ====== * Put 1st for prominence, including a reference on the contents page * :ref:`Confusing Ideas & Terminology` is considered to contain safety related material, as confusion can lead to gross errors and gross errors can be dangerous. Technical Details of Sight Adjustment ===================================== * From :ref:`Adjusting for Distance & Conditions` to :ref:`Very Long Range`. * Ordered by increasing demands on accuracy. Checklists & Tools ================== * From :ref:`Useful Checks` to :ref:`Document Structure`. * Collected at the end to avoid interrupting the explanatory sections. Jargon ====== * I have tried to minimise the physics jargon; I have tried to relate what I have had to use to common activities (such as lifting objects). * Some arithmetic is necessary. * Any algebra, trigonometry and calculus has been banished to the footnotes. It is not necessary for practical purposes and has been included for those who are interested. Yet to be Completed =================== * Some time ago I wrote a trajectory calculator. I will make it accessible from the web page in due course. * I will write a calculator for adjustments for earth rotation. * I will make the fractions easier to read by making the line between the numerator and denominator horizontal. Length ====== A shorter simpler version is required, but I am incapable of doing the necessary editing in my head. Setting out this long version makes it easy for people to pick the parts they think should go into the shorter version.
